2023: An unforgettable trip to Indonesia

During the final phase of Dylan's studies, Dylan chooses to graduate from the country where his roots are, namely Indonesia. For a period of five months, Dylan will live in Indonesia's student city, Yogyakarta. The Indonesian archipelago consists of more than 17,000 islands, of which an estimated 6,000 are inhabited by 365 ethnic groups with some 300 different languages. From far and wide, students come to Yogyakarta to study, resulting in the convergence of many different cultures.

Although a graduate internship in Indonesia is completely different from a holiday, it did not make the experience any less enjoyable. On the contrary, the pleasant weather, the traditional Javanese culture, the beautiful nature, the friendly and hospitable people, and of course not forgetting the delicious food, made this experience unforgettable.

A contrast between Indonesia and the Netherlands

Dylan spent a lot of time in internet cafés studying. He noticed that the internet cafés were packed with studying students. The fact that Dylan had a command of the Indonesian language meant that he quickly got talking to local students. These conversations provided much food for thought, especially about what work life is like in Indonesia.

A whole different world

In the Netherlands, people are very well off and generally do not lack anything. There is a good education system, equal opportunities for all, good employment and conditions, and a good work-life balance. A big contrast to conditions in Indonesia. Interviews with locals reveal that after graduation, people prefer to move to the distant cousin of the ‘Big Apple’, namely the ‘Big Durian’ Jakarta by the way. Where the job prospects are least uncertain.

2024

2024: Providing a platform for Indonesian professionals

With the following thought, Dylan continues, thinking about how he can do something for the people of Indonesia: ‘In Indonesia, there are an awful lot of people with talent and skill, they just don't get the right platform to use their talents.’

Through the contacts and friendships made, Dylan came up with the idea to team up with Niko, a locally trained IT professional, in the field of Web Development.

Despite the great geographical distance between Indonesia and the Netherlands, the common vision and mission is clear.

"To assist individuals and companies in creating customised websites, be they informative websites, online stores, personal blogs or corporate portfolios".

"The commitment to help others through creating or enhancing digital presence and, on the other hand, to provide a platform for Indonesian professionals, in which they get a fair chance to demonstrate and leverage their skills and talents".

Thus, the name Omah Arisan is given birth, which translated into Dutch means ‘The house of gathering’. Indeed, Omah Arisan is a coming together of culture, skills and talents, equal opportunities, new contacts, and a prosperous future.
